Ep. 206 – 40 YEARS OF LOVE (A Real Love Story) | Especial ‘Valentine’s Day’

A love story

PARTE 1

Chris: “Stalking me back in sixth grade”

Bill: We grew up in Cedar Grove. My dad worked with her uncle, and her mom was the crossing guard. And so, you know, everybody knows everybody.

Chris: He was always just a good guy in school, tall, skinny, redhead. We’re both skinny at one time, he was just always a nice guy, and that attracted me.

Bill: Whenever we’d see each other, you know, (we were like), ‘Hey, how are you?’ It was just instantaneous, and then we could talk for two hours and nott stopped.

Chris: As you call tell. Back then’ the girls didn’t ask guys out, so we just left it as it was. Maybe he’s not that interested.

Bill: She’s very smart, she’s very attractive, she’s very kind, and everybody that meets her falls in love with her. I figured she wasn’t interested, so I really never pursued it past that.

PARTE 2

Bill: We graduated from high school, and I went to college, and I was commissioned an officer in the army. I was a medical officer, and I got an invitation to the wedding. I was thinking, ‘It should have been me’ but you know, I didn’t ask, and somebody else did, so I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll move on.’ We wound up, you know, going our separate ways, and we always were friends and kept in touch that way.

Chris: My marriage was getting to the point of being strained when he was getting married, I was rather upset by it, thinking, ‘It should be me,’ but can’t say anything. It’s not proper. My mother and I were just talking, and totally off-topic my mother just turned to me and she goes, ‘Why did you never date that nice Gregory boy?’ And my response to her was, ‘He never asked, Mom.’

PARTE 3

Bill: My marriage had ended, and I was thinking, you know, I’m getting older now, and my kids are grown. I was just thinking about Chris and how easy it was to talk with her. And I knew at that point she had been divorced. So I thought, you know, what the heck, I didn’t do it when I was younger when I should have. You know, let’s man up here and try it again.

Chris: The only thing he knew from where I might have lived was I said, Christmas cards every year.

Bill: I knew she lived on Banta Lane, and I didn’t know what number they were. I didn’t know what car they drove. I didn’t know what house it was or anything. So I just took a chance and figured I’d drive by.

Chris: And I turned around, and there’s a car pulling in my driveway, and the window came down, I was like, I was shocked. I was like, I said, I was like Bill. Once the words came out that we loved each other and it had always been there, it was very easy after that. That’s kinda how it happed. And it just went very fast from there. It was just that first hurdle to finally say, ‘Okay, after all this time, yes, you were always the one, but life got in the way.’ We have now, and that’s what we have. You know, we were given a gift, so we’re embracing the gift. Maybe the timing was wrong, we don’t know. You know, again, I believe in karma, I believe in serendipity and all that. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be until now so that we can enjoy this part of our life.”
